Radar 1731 Notes,
I have a Furuno Model 1731 radar that came as original equipment on my boat. The NMEA port on the back of the display is
unused. Can I connect the radar to my GPS/Chart Plotter so the lat/lon will display on my radar?
Answer
Yes, the GPS chart plotter will connect to the 1731 radar using an NMEA cable. There are two different cables depending
on the manufacturer date of the 1731. If the NMEA port is a 4 pin you will need part number 000-109-517, for the 6 pin type
you will need part number 000-117-603.
1) Connect the GPS output positive wire to the yellow wire of the Furuno cable.
2) Connect the output negative wire (or ground) to the green wire of the Furuno cable.
Note: The 1731 works best on NMEA version 1.5, this should be selectable on your GPS plotter. If your plotter is a Furuno
product there may be a double ended cable available, with no splicing required. Please check with your local authorized Furuno
dealer for more details.
The 1731, 1731MK2, 1731MK3, 1751, 1751MK2, 1761, 1761MK2, or 1761MK3 displays will work with the 1731 dome and cable. No other
CRT model radar displays are compatible.
An 821, 841, or 841MK2 LCD display also works with the 1731 dome by utilizing the appropriate menu settings. The 851 and 851MK2
are not compatible.
NOTE: There are internal jumpers and switches that must be changed on any of the above CRT 17x1 series displays to make them
compatible. These changes should be performed by a qualified Furuno representative. Please click on "Dealer Locator" on the
top navigation bar. This will allow you to search for dealers in your area by zip code
